Chronicle Articles

I don't put magazine articles on my c.v., though I do write some now and again.

Some readers have asked for links; here is a list of my articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education, for what that's worth.

April 2010: 10 Suggestions for a New Department Chair

Jan 2010: THE RIGHT KIND OF NOTHING

Nov 2009: SORRY I'M LATE

June 2009: FACULTY TURTLES

Aug 2008: "A" HIRE VS "THE" HIRE

I enjoyed the "turtle" article. Thanks for posting it-and all of these. I've always been a turtle myself based on several experiences of newspaper reporters misinterpreting what I say.

In one case that was unnerving to me from a career standpoint, a student reporter from the university newspaper asked me a series of questions on academic freedom. Fair enough, I was glad to help the student. So, unknown to me, the student also interviews a Dean. And then writes the article like I was arguing with the Dean. As a new assistant professor, I was, um, unhappy.

Munger - long time listener, first time caller here. LOVE the CHE stuff. The Chair article was so full of useful ideas.
Many many thanks!
